Student and Teacher Thinking
Our Examples of Student and Teaching Thinking provide snapshots of how participating FGT teachers and their students have approached geometry problems, and how teachers have analyzed their own thinking and the thinking of their students. These vignettes briefly illustrate the Structured Exploration Process FGT participants experience: 1) Doing mathematics, 2) Reflecting on the mathematics, 3) Collecting student work, 4) Analyzing student work, and 5) Reflecting on students' thinking.
Geometry Problems
The FGT materials are centered on rich geometry problems. Our problems share certain features - they are challenging, they generally include multiple possible entry points or extensions, and they help expose (and promote) students' geometric thinking. They are also varied in terms of geometric content (our problems can be clustered in to content strands of properties, transformations, and measurement) and the Geometric Habits of Mind they foster.
